Work Our Ladye Star of the Sea Church website and brand
Highlighting the heritage of this historic church in Royal Greenwich, London
A new identity, website and film to highlight the architectural heritage of the church designed by Wardell and with interiors by Pugin. The aim is both to leverage financial support through cultural bodies such the Heritage Lotttery Fund for restorations works and engage with the wider community by providing better access to the history and the church itself.
See the new website.
Having seen our previous work for St Peter's in Woolwich, Father Kevin Robinson and wife, Frances, approached us to create a new website for the church in order to better disseminate its cultural value.
“We needed a new church website and Fit Creative were highly recommended to us. They clearly understood what was needed and, with the advantage of their local knowledge and eye for details, brought our attention to features of the church which had otherwise passed us by. This made for an enjoyable project all round. Engaging images draw visitors in to find information about what goes on at the church and its heritage in a user friendly way. The team helpfully guided us in face- to-face meetings and contact throughout the build so that we are able to maintain and update the website ourselves. We now have a website that we are very proud of and is worthy of our beautiful church.”

Website design and build
The new website structure and design was developed to allow the client to have as much control as possible over their content and with the ability to grow the website's content to suit their needs. Working with the steering group, we established the priorities of content, messaging and overall look and feel. Through detailed sessions of reviewing how the build was working and advising on content creation, the team were able to work closely together and complete the project on schedule and to budget.
Responsive and contemporary
The new design is contemporary and sympathetic to the church, as well as being responsive to the browser screen width and device being used. A clear visual structure direct the visitor to the content they are seeking.
New homepage film
In order to bring the church to life, with it's very tall spire and striking details, we have created a film to show on the homepage. We edited together drone footage created by the architect in order to track the remedial works required for the building into a stunning visual highlight of the architecture and interior.
New photography
With such a striking and beautiful building both externally and internally, part of our remit was to capture it in images which bring the website to life. Being locally placed we were able to visit the church a number of times to accommodate different weather and lighting and capture stunning imagery.
New Mary focused identity
As part of our process of developing the structure and content needs of the website, we gathered an understanding of what makes the church so important to Greenwich heritage and this helped inform the look of the new identity, used to brand the new website.
The symbol of Mary, the patron saint of the church, originally designed by Pugin and immortalised in various interior elements, was redrawn and set within the quatrofoil shape; a commonly used symbol within Gothic architecture.
Pugin inspired patterns
Part of the new brand identity utilises elements from across the interiors of the church design to create supporting pattern graphics.
