Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust

Creating an anarchic heritage brand for the newly established heritage trust in Royal Greenwich that will protect a number of sites and the museum collection.

Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust was established to protect and care for heritage across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Working with the newly formed trust, we created a contemporary, bold brand with an irreverent tone of voice designed to challenge and engage the local community. Alongside the brand, we designed and built a new website and produced a suite of literature and on-site graphics. We continued working with the trust for a number of years producing events materials, a branded goods range, the Friends’ scheme, and a dedicated Woolwich history trail.

Establishing the brand

Having met with the Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust (RGHT) in 2014, we were pleased to be commissioned to help them roll out a branding programme across website, signage, promotional leaflets, internal comms, merchandise and branded goods. The complete works created a strong heritage brand with a young attitude and a ‘why not’ approach to how the Borough’s cultural past is presented.

Led by Chief Executive Tracy Stringfellow, the team were a pleasure to work with as they embraced the opportunity to represent all the Trust stands for in a fresh and innovative way. In order to create a focus for all of the team across all the sites, a set of three principles were agreed: learning, access and conservation. Bold colours and large graphics were applied across print, signage and the website.

The wide remit of the trust includes many memorials, buildings and a large collection. It was important to visually communicate that to all audiences.

“We have worked with Fit Creative since the Trust was first established. Their commitment to the needs of our small charity, sensitivity to our budget constraints, as well as ability to understand our developing vision have resulted in an excellent working relationship. Fit Creative always delivers on time, to budget, and with creative flair. As an organisation, we are very happy with the results of the work we have done with Fit Creative and look forward to a continued relationship as our charity grows.”

Website

Working with the team, we identified the needs of the website for all of its audiences. We created a website that allows each of the heritage sites and memorials to be accessed and adds more information as more history is researched and more events and activities are added.

A suite of literature

A family of leaflets for each Charlton House, the Greenwich Heritage Centre, and the events listings meant each of the sites and activities can be promoted individually with a linking brand language for the Trust across all of them. These both help establish the Trust's role to these local favourites but also allows them all to have engaging materials.

Branded goods

A variety of bags, pencils, coasters, and hoodies meant that both staff and visitors saw a strong brand message from the new Trust, allowing its voice to be seen and heard by vested interest parties.

Expanding the Friends’ scheme

A single Friends’ scheme was established, uniting the various established local groups into one strong membership group, all focused on heritage in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The literature and membership card continues the bold brand look and feel.
