Orpington Market

Creating a new brand for Orpington Market following a major refurbishment of the area.

Following a major refurbishment of the market square – with new seating, lighting, and power – Orpington Market presented an exciting opportunity for a fresh local brand. Developer Rockspring approached us after seeing our work for Greenwich Market. Working closely with the management team, we established a clear brand positioning and created an identity that celebrates the market’s local culture and character.

Branding

Walnuts Shopping Centre (manager of the original Orpington Market) identified that a revived and successful market has a pivotal role in the future of Orpington town centre and shopping centre by adding vibrancy to the retail space. We created a distinct identity which would be bold and eye-catching.

The key values of the brand were identified: welcoming, trusted, genuine, for the community, providing choice, and full of life. Research into the history of Orpington identified a strong establishment with local fruit produce, and the theme 'Garden of England' directed the brand creation.

Illustration and typography incorporate a distressed effect and a muted colour palette. Brand characteristics of 'salt of the earth', wholesome and genuine, were applied through design and copywriting.

Opportunities for seasonally specific messaging and social engagement were identified, including campaign concepts such as ‘What’s your OMG' - Orpington Market Gem.

A full brand manual was provided and a wide set of brand assets to enable the in-house team to bring the new market brand to life.

“Fit Creative are a passionate and distinctive agency – for us, they were the right choice to deliver a creative brand for Orpington Market during its refurbishment. They were a great extension to our project team, understood the brief, and created a truly unique look that reflected the community and lively market identity.”
